Waking From Our Deep Sleep

Plans That Make a Difference

Waking From Our Deep Sleep

What’s often unclear is that our actions and those of our country’s leaders ripple beyond ourselves and out into the world around us. This is the path we tread towards a future we create together.

It’s also pretty reliable to note that what you seek is not always what you eventually find. Life is a paradox. One question that arises is how can we use our time meaningfully, that may mean loosening our grip on worry and anxiety, it may mean voting intelligently and making mindful choices.

As the day ends our life is but one day shorter, what could be accomplished if we approached life on this earth with a sense of goodness is almost unthinkable at the moment – we are simply too deep in the mud to even know we’re stuck.

Where do we go to find freedom, first and foremost it is to be found in economic independence. We cannot have freedom if we are drowning in debt or can’t find work to take care of our families. For a growing number, the daily struggle has become the new normal but that doesn’t mean it’s right or that it should continue.

Perhaps we are identifying with the wrong stuff, with only five days remaining before voting begins in the next US presidential election the focus on personality seems so misplaced – a sideshow that replaces any real dialogue on the looming global issues. If one were to read the mainstream media one would get the impression that all is well with the economy but the conditions of working people tell a different story.

If the only choice voters have is between corporate power that needs stability to survive or the power of the individual monied Oligarchs then we only have the illusion of choice as both seek to dismantle regulations that protect society and ultimately disempower the public, that’s you. Not much choice there.

Much of our anxiety comes from not knowing what to do, so perhaps just doing ‘what comes next’ and not overthinking things can work for you. However comforting, it would be naive of me to state that we’ll all get through this chaotic period of history, there may be many missteps along the way to a better future and that’s pretty normal.

We have fought wars, faced injustice, experienced loss and dealt with violence and greed before, it’s nothing new. Those who practice awareness learn to not shy away from the pain and to value the extremes of our life experience. There’s much to learn there, but to escape from being burnt we also need to ‘wake up’ from our deep sleep.

Hi, I'm Gary! For me retirement was less about how to spend my time and more about becoming someone new, not trying to do something new, unshackled from normal, absent from habits and not fearful of new opportunities that present themselves.
