2024 – A Burnout Year

If you ended 2024 feeling exhausted then join the club, the shifting sands running through this earthly civilisation combined with the election of Mr Trump and the Global Restructuring cannot help but create fatigue in most of us.

That tiredness you can’t seem to shake off is often called ‘burnout’. Holding on tightly to survive is built into our DNA, you know,  finishing the race, never giving up. True belief is when we get it, we know that something must shift, and only then can we start tapping into the eternal power available to all of us.

To move on from exhaustion we must give something up, religion calls it sacrifice, and joining the military is called making a sacrifice for your country but to truly understand sacrifice we must know, to deeply understand through the haze of distraction what it is we truly need. If you cannot see any advantage why would you ever think of giving anything up? Therefore fatigue and vagueness can be a powerful weapon.

Virginia Wolf once said “A self that goes on changing is a self that goes on living” –  we are told that change is really about you ‘giving up’ on something, so please stick with it. The message becomes, stay in your tiredness, don’t worry about exhaustion and things will get better soon. The flip side of course is when you don’t embrace change the road ahead becomes increasingly inflexible and with far less options, you slowly become like a hard bone in your opinions, habits and attitudes.

Resistance to change inevitably leads us into battle, instead of strengthening our collective readiness and understanding of our shared humanity we then strive to tear it all down. Unity is vital for this battle. Working together will help each other transition from a competition-based system to a collaborative one where the good of all human beings is rightfully our blessed place. We have drifted so far, we are living in a world where ‘style’ is more important than ‘sincerity’.

In every life, there are moments when the spark dims but if viewed from a deeper perspective it can also be our platform from where change emerges. Our modern society hopes to lull us into inertia, into permanent amnesia, the goal is to help us forget that we are greater than our daily exertions and that our never-ending plans are lost in exhaustion. This mouse trap is more than just a loss of faith, it’s a loss of life itself.

Our unconscious self-sabotage is extraordinary in its magnitude, the disasters we create for ourselves are endless. Burnout is more about our resistance to the changes we know in our hearts must begin, exhaustion is knowing we cannot keep walking the same path in the same way and doing nothing to make our lives change.

2025 needs to be a transformative year for our entire species, seeking shallow rewards in place of this amazing life we have been gifted is a useless quest that will never bring happiness. There are many false prophets, the true prophets won’t try to bedazzle you with trinkets but help awaken you to your inner strength where finally, we come to rest. Happy New Year.

Hi, I'm Gary! For me retirement was less about how to spend my time and more about becoming someone new, not trying to do something new, unshackled from normal, absent from habits and not fearful of new opportunities that present themselves.
